Victor Martinez to Red Sox
Throughout the years as a Cleveland fan, we all have shared in the misery of watching talented player after talented player leave for the big money of a major market. That's what makes the Victor Martinez trade hard to swallow as a Cleveland fan. Besides being the best and much clutch offensive player, he was willing to do whatever was needed to make himself and the team a better player. He learned a new position, first base, which obviously has made an improvment in his durability as seen with his production this year. That is hard enough to take. But when a player is almost moved to tears because he is leaving Cleveland, that makes it gut-wrenching. Most big time players can't wait to get out and make the big bucks and enjoy the glory of a major market. Victor Martinez was sad because he had to leave what he called his "home." His son even asked him, "Are we still Indians?" They loved being Clevelanders and being Indians. Beacuse of this for the rest of his career, I will cheer for Martinez even when he steps in against the Tribe. In my mind, he is as great as they come and will always be an Indian. Good luck Victor.
