Really?

On the day the Man-Genius (up for debate) has named Derek Anderson the starter next week after a horrendous appearance on Sunday, Eric Wedge got fired.  Really couldn't wait until the end of the season?  Or how about after another awful April?  The timing is suspect, but good riddance.  The Tribe obviously needs a new voice in the dugout, although they don't really have any of those players left that weren't listening to him anyway.  Go Cleveland!!!

Wow I Stink.

There are two things that stink in Cleveland.  Randy Lerner's ownership of the Browns and my picks.  19-27 on the year after a brutal last week.  My record is better than the 54-109 record the Browns have posted since their return.  At least my picks aren't as excruciating as watching the two teams playing in Cleveland right now.  The best thing that could happen to the Indians is to rain out the rest of the year.  And the Browns, well as a famous Clevelander bar owner once said, "Put in Holcombe."  Anyway, there is a good degenerate game to bet on tonight so why not.  Let's Get Drunk Cleveland Fans!!!

Favorites are in bold

Louisiana Tech Bulldogs vs Hawaii Warriors in Ruston, Joe Aillet Stadium
Spread: 4.5
Pick: Hawaii Warriors
Hawaii lost a heartbreaker at UNLV two weeks ago, but have been good so far this year. Apparently your ignorant head coach inappropriately calling ND "fags" at a press conference has become a something to rally around. Its a long trip for Hawaii, but they have had some time off to prepare and adjust to the time change. Take the points, but the Warriors win this one 38-33.

NFL picks

This weekends NFL games bring some intrigue as well.  Since I will be out of town, here are my picks for this weekend in the National Football League.  Go Browns!!!  Let's Get Drunk!!!

Favorites are in bold

New England Patriots vs Atlanta Falcons in Foxboro, Gillette Stadium
Spread: 4
Pick: Atlanta Falcons
Atlanta is going to take that next step this weekend and knock off the Patriots. Brady is still recovering and the running game is a mess. Take the points, but I think the Falcons win, 27-24.
Washington Redskins vs Detroit Lions in Detroit, Ford Field
Spread: 6.5
Pick: Detroit Lions
WHAT?!?!?!?!? The Lions? That is right. Washington is simply not good and this is the week the Lions get their first win in a long time. Take the points, but the Lions win...finally 16-13.
New York Jets vs Tennessee Titans in East Rutherford, Giants Stadium
Spread: 2.5
Pick: Tennessee Titans
Just when all the Jets fans start beginning to think they have a chance, in come the Titans desperately needing a win. And they will get it. Sanchez makes some errors in this one that prove costly and lose a low scoring battle. Take the points, but the Titans will win late 14-13.
Buffalo Bills vs New Orleans Saints in Orchard Park, Ralph Wilson Stadium
O/U: 52.5
Pick: Over
No defense in this one. The Saints are going to pound the Bills, but will definitely give up some points. Take the over. Saints win 42-28.
Pittsburgh Steelers vs Cincinnati Bengals in Cincinnati, Paul Brown Stadium
Spread: 4
Pick: Cincinnati Bengals
In case you haven't noticed, the Bengals can play some 'D'. They will probably find a way to lose this game late again, but only by a late FG. Jeff Reed redeems himself, Steelers win on the road 22-21.

Cleveland's Best Sports Bar

Am I overlooking something.  The line tonight just seems too obvious, and that is why I am scared.  Anyway, come on down to the Clevelander Bar and Grill, get drunk and watch the 'Cocks upset the Rebels.

Favorites are in bold

Mississippi Rebels vs South Carolina Gamecocks in Columbia, Williams-Brice Stadium
Spread: 4
Pick: Mississippi Rebels
Why so few points in this game? Am I missing something? I think Ole Miss is overrated and has played sloppy football so far this year, but they are still better than South Carolina. We shall see. Ole Miss wins big 52-27.

Cavs Bar

Well, 2-6 last week brings me to 14-17 on the year.  A bad week last week to say the least.  That is unless you take my advice and bet against me.  This weeks slate of games is a good one and I love a lot of games this week.  Let's get started.

Favorites are in bold

Northwestern Wildcats vs Minnesota Golden Gophers in Evanston, Ryan Field
Spread: 2
Pick: Northwestern Wildcats
Northwestern stumbled last week versus the 'Cuse, but that may have been just what the doctor ordered for Pat Fitzgerald to rally the troops. Minnesota goes on the road for the first time in the Big 10 and is gonna take its lumps. NW is going to score some points in this game and cover 42-36.
Alabama Crimson Tide vs Arkansas Razorbacks in Tuscaloosa, Bryant Denny Field
O/U: 57
Pick: Over
Bobby Petrino has this offense humming. Now if he could only teach them how to play defense. Arkansas is going to become just like Louisville when Petrino was with the Cardinals, bet the over and laugh as you watch them cover it in the first half. Kind of like the Razorbacks to cover in this game, but after last week, I will just take the over. Roll Tide, 52-40.
Stanford Cardinal vs Washington Huskies in Stanford, Stanford Stadium
Spread: 7
Pick: Stanford Cardinal
I always like to see USC lose. That being said, all the celebrating in Seattle will be tempered as they go to Stanford and get worked. Jim Harbaugh will have the Cardinal ready and the hangover will be too much for the Huskies. Stanford beats UW, 35-17.
Kansas Jayhawks vs Southern Miss Golden Eagles in Lawrence, Memorial Stadium - KS
Spread: 13
Pick: Kansas Jayhawks
Kansas has been flying under the radar so far this year. While they are 3-0 versus some weak opponents, they are also 3-0 versus the number. Look for CFB's greatest coach, Mark "I'll pass on the salad" Mangino to continue to put up points this week. Rock, Chalk wins easily 54-14.
Cincinnati Bearcats vs Fresno State Bulldogs in Cincinnati, Nippert Stadium
Spread: 16
Pick: Cincinnati Bearcats
UC is ridiculous this year. The Buckeyes are lucky they are not playing these guys this year because they may be the best team in Ohio. They are going to put up an ungodly number of points this week versus a porous Fresno D that is being put through the wringer with travel plans. Bearcats huge, 63-21.
Michigan Wolverines vs Indiana Hoosiers in Ann Arbor, Michigan Stadium
Spread: 21
Pick: Michigan Wolverines
Indiana is terrible. Michigan has an offense. UM works Indiana. Simple equation. Go Blow wins 49-10.
Clemson Tigers vs TCU Horned Frogs in Clemson, Clemson Memorial Stadium
Spread: 2.5
Pick: TCU Horned Frogs
I love TCU. There travel schedule has been a little brutal, but they have the athletes to match up on defense with Clemson. I think TCU wins this game outright. Take the points, but the Horned Frogs win 31-28.
North Carolina State Wolfpack vs Pittsburgh Panthers in Raleigh, Carter Finley Stadium
Spread: pk
Pick: Pittsburgh Panthers
Pitt is another team under the radar that has been playing pretty well. They lost LeSean McCoy but that seems to have improved their offense because they have opened it up. NC State is simply not a good team. The Panthers go on the road and get a big win, 28-23.
And the degenerate pick of the week...
Bowling Green Falcons vs Boise State Broncos in Bowling Green, Perry Stadium
Spread: 17
Pick: Bowling Green Falcons
I have been waiting for this game since Boise beat Oregon.  Watch out Broncos, if you are not ready, you may get beat this weekend.  BGSU has beaten a decent Troy team, lost a heartbreaker at Mizzou, and then fell into a trap at Marshall last week and lost.  Boise State will be without starting RB DJ Harper who tore his ACL last week.  After a couple early big games (at Fresno and Oregon at home), this game may spell trouble if Boise doesn't show up.  Boise may escape, but not by as much as people think.  Upset alert Boise, but the Broncos pull it out 42-40.

Glorious Saturdays

My favorite day of the year at my favorite time of the year.  God Bless College Football.  After last nights game I am 12-11 on the year.  I love a lot of games today and have a fever...gambling fever.  Let's get to the picks so we can get drunk Cleveland.

Favorites are in bold

Virginia Tech Hokies vs Nebraska Cornhuskers in Blacksburg, Lane Stadium
Spread: 5
Pick: Nebraska Cornhuskers
This game has grinder written all over it. VT never loses these games at home and Nebraska's young team may be a little intimidated on the road, but that should subside after a quarter. VT wins a field goal battle. 15-12.
Florida Gators vs Tennessee Volunteers in Gainesville, Ben Hill Griffin Stadium
Spread: 30
Pick: Florida Gators
Hey Lane Kiffin, remember what the Gators did to Georgia last year following the Bulldogs entire team celebration after a touchdown. Meyer may call timeouts in the 4th quarter up by 50 to prove a point again this year. UF 63-10.
BYU Cougars vs Florida State Seminoles in Provo, Lavell Edwards Stadium
Spread: 8
Pick: BYU Cougars
Utah is not a friendly place to get victories and FSU is going to face a defense that is better than expected. BYU pulls one out at home 35-24.
Arkansas Razorbacks vs Georgia Bulldogs in Fayetteville, Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium
Spread: 1.5
Pick: Arkansas Razorbacks
Georgia is not very good and Fayetteville is going to be ready to explode if they win this one. The Razorbacks have a better and more experienced team and this game is huge for their program. Pig Sooey dominates this one 40-24.

Clemson Tigers vs Boston College Eagles in Clemson, Clemson Memorial Stadium
Spread: 7
Pick: Boston College Eagles
BC always gives Clemson fits with its defense and mistake free football. BC's QB derby causes me a little concern, but hopefully they know the plan now that ACC season is here. Clemson may escape with a victory, but not by more than 7. Clemson wins late 28-27.
Penn State Nittany Lions vs Temple Owls in University Park, Beaver Stadium
Spread: 30
Pick: Penn State Nittany Lions
Temple lost to Villanova. That's all we need to know. PSU 58-3.
USC Trojans vs Washington Huskies in Seattle, Husky Stadium - WA
Spread: 19
Pick: Washington Huskies
The Huskies have some confidence and USC is a little bit injured.  This seems like too many points for a decent team at home versus a one dimensional USC team.  USC will probably win, but not by more than 19.  USC 21-13.

And the degenerate pick of the week...
LSU Tigers vs UL-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns in Baton Rouge, Tiger Stadium
Spread: 27.5
Pick: UL-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns
LSU has no QB.  He may show up this week, but I am laying the points.  LSU wins, but ULL covers, 38-14.

Cleveland Cavaliers Bar

Yes, sometimes even I amaze myself.  With the U victory decisively last night my record for the year is 11-11.  Time to get back on a losing streak.  One game tonight (and it should be a good one).  Let's Get Drunk Cleveland!!!

Favorite listed in bold

Boise State Broncos vs Fresno State Bulldogs in Fresno, Bulldog Stadium

Spread:  7.5

Pick:  Boise State Broncos

Fresno has not beaten the Broncos since 2005 and the closest game was two years ago at Fresno by 13 points.  I tried to talk myself into the Bulldogs since it is a home game on a Friday night and it is going to be a now worn out "white out."  But tickets are still available for the game and Fresno's schedule would wear out even the most frequent flyer playing last week in Madison, WI and having to go to Cincinnati and Hawai'i in the next two weeks.  Good luck with that.   I may even consider buying the half point in case the game is close.  In the end, Boise is on a mission and won't lose focus...until next week against our BGSU Falcons.  Boise wins big, 45-28.

The U

I liked this game the second I saw it and now, I am a little worried about it.  The money is going on my pick though.  Here we go.

Favorite is in BOLD

Miami Hurricanes vs Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in Miami, Dolphin Stadium

Spread:  4.5

Pick:  Miami Hurricanes

I think the Canes are going to be tough this year.  They are young, but they are getting that 'U' swagger back it appears.  The D looks pretty good, but most impressively it appears the offense is finally back after 5 years of misery.  I liked this game early, but the usual Thursday night homefield advantage is null in this game as everyone in South Beach has better things to do than drive to the suburbs to watch football.  Georgia Tech had a few big plays last week to open up a huge lead over Clemson last week, but had to struggle to hold on for the victory.  The QB will be the difference, Harris versus Nesbitt and which one makes the fewest mistakes.  In the end, Miami takes it,  29-20.

Private Party Room

Don't forget to book your private parties for all of your bachelor party, sports party, or business party needs with us at the Clevelander.  Contact Pat or Ed for details.

Anybody going to the huge Buckeyes v. Rockets game at Browns Stadium?  Well, since Tressel's play calling ended the Buckeyes national title hopes last week versus USC, you can now skip the game and watch all the college football you want (or bet) with us at the Clevelander Bar and Grill on Saturday.  We have all kinds of specials in place to get you drunk on Saturday.  $3 John Daly shots, 16 ounce Bud and Bud Light buckets 5 for $18, and 12 ounce Corona and Corona Light buckets 5 for $18.  Don't forget to grab one of our famous burgers (I recommend the Stosh for a good all day drinking base) to keep you upright for a full slate of games.  Come watch the Buckeyes survive versus a game Toledo team at our outdoor patio and enjoy those last few beers in the sun before summer ends.

As an aside, the best sign I saw in Columbus last week:  "I would rather get AIDS than wear a Trojan."  Shame on you.

Let's Get Drunk Cleveland!!!

Party Room Available

Well, not a horrible weekend.  4-2 on Saturday and 2-2 on Sunday (thank you very much Giants prevent offense in 2nd half).  Bringing us almost all the way back to .500 at 10-11.  Looking forward to this week of drinking and gambling.

How about them Browns?  Well, how about them Browns in the first half?  The Browns looked like a competetive football team in the first half.  Their offense was sputtering all game, but a first year QB will have that.  They did get some pressure on Favre and completely shut down Adrian Peterson in the first half, but that only lasts for so long with that guy.  All in all, the Browns, while they had some lapses, look like a competetive football team.  I am not saying they are winning more than 6 games, but they should be in a lot of games and look like an NFL team unlike last year.

Finally, I don't want to go as far as to say Ohio State needs to fire Jim Tressel, because he is good for the program and teaches kids the right way to do things.  BUT, if he does not get someone in their to start calling the plays and opening up the offense, then he needs to go.  There is no reason that with the talent the Ohio State has had over Tressel's tenure that they should not be scoring more points.  Pete Carroll proved why he is one of the best coaches in the country, because he knows his team has talent and makes them show it on the field.  Carroll goes on the road and attempts (and converts) 4 fourth downs because he has confidence that his team will get the job done.  And they did.  The Buckeyes have no excuse for not winning that game as they dominated every aspect except the scoreboard, and that is on Tressel.

Stay tuned for this weeks picks starting with the Thursday showdown at the U.

Cleveland Sports Bar

We are going to add a new little wrinkle this year and it is called betting on the NFL.  I had previously been against betting on the NFL until last year I realized that it is not as hard as it seemed.  The key is to not look at the name of the team, but how the team is playing.  Yes, last year Cincinnati was atrocious, but the 2nd half of the year they were 5-3 against the spread.  So here we go.  Starting a little bit chalky, but we have to find those under the radar teams as the weeks progress.

Favorites are in bold

New Orleans Saints vs Detroit Lions in New Orleans, Louisiana Superdome
Spread: 48.5
Pick: New Orleans Saints
You may want to wait on this number as it has gone down since the Lions announced that Stafford was starting. We think that Stafford will be good for at least 21 points, 7 for the Lions and 14 for the Saints. Take the over, Saints win 38-20.
Cincinnati Bengals vs Denver Broncos in Cincinnati, Paul Brown Stadium
Spread: 4
Pick: Cincinnati Bengals
The Bengals have a defense and if Carson Palmer can stay upright (which shouldn't be a problem versus an awful Broncos D), the Bengals should win this one easily. The Broncos are a mess and are in trouble this year. Who dey, 33-17.
Minnesota Vikings vs Cleveland Browns in Cleveland, Cleveland Browns Stadium
Spread: 4
Pick: Minnesota Vikings
Go Browns. Adrian Peterson may rush for 600 yards in this game. I wish it were not true, but I think the Browns are in trouble this year. I hope I am wrong. Vikings 28-10.
New York Giants vs Washington Redskins in East Rutherford, Giants Stadium
Spread: 6.5
Pick: New York Giants
Plaxico may be in jail, but the Giants have a bunch of capable WR for Eli to throw to. It will not matter though, because the Giants D-Line will have Jason Campbell on his back more than a $5 hooker. Giants make a statement week 1, 30-9.

I was at Smokey Bones the other day and saw the greatest invention I have ever seen! It was a football field goal post with a football attached to urinal screen in the urinal and it was genius! Guys aim at it while relieving themselves. You have to see it yourself, the website of the company that makes them is at www.direct-aim.com and every sports bar should have these!

Sports Bar and Grill

After the first weekend, I am 4-7.  Not great, but better than last year if I remember correctly.  I am going to make some picks early this week because I know that I definitely have my finger on the pulse after one week.  Remember, if you are interested in winning, betting against me usually works.  Go Bucks!

Favorites are in bold

Usc Trojans vs Ohio State Buckeyes in Columbus, Ohio Stadium
Spread: 7
Pick: Usc Trojans
I am going to the game, but I am not delusional enough to think the Buckeyes have a chance unfortunately. USC traditionally dominates in big games on the road. Trojans win 35-17.
Wake Forest Demon Deacons vs Stanford Cardinal in Winston Salem, Bb&t Field (formerly Groves Stadium)
First Half Spread: 1.5
Pick: Wake Forest Demon Deacons 1st half
A west coast team playing an east coast team in a noon game? I smell trouble. Stanford may make up to win this game, but I love Wake in essentially a pick'em in the first half. Bet the first half and rake it in.
Florida Gators vs Troy Trojans in Gainesville, Ben Hill Griffin Stadium
Spread: 36
Pick: Florida Gators
Don't be fooled into thinking the Gators are going to get caught looking ahead to Tennessee in this game. Troy just got slaughtered by BGSU and is not the same Troy team that has given big name teams fits in the past. Bet the Gators all year until they don't cover. Gators huge, 63-7.
Texas Christian Horned Frogs vs Virginia Cavaliers in Charlottesville, Scott Stadium
Spread: 11.5
Pick: Texas Christian Horned Frogs
TCU lost a lot up front on D, but with most of its offense back should destroy this hapless UVa team that already has a home loss to William and Mary. Virginia may not get the ball across the 50 yard line all game. Again, the Mountain West wins against the BCS, 42-17.
Minnesota Golden Gophers vs Air Force Falcons in Minneapolis, TCF Bank Stadium
Spread: 3.5
Pick: Minnesota Golden Gophers
I know Minnesota had to go to overtime versus Syracuse and Air Force scored 72 points last week, but throw that all out the window. Minnesota is playing a night game at their brand new, open air, on campus stadium and are going to be fired up. Gophers win, 28-20.

And the degenerate game of the week...
Ohio Bobcats vs North Texas Mean Green in Denton, Fouts Field
Spread:  3
Pick:  North Texas Mean Green
OU showed that they are not very good and North Texas loves to cover.  Now they are getting points at home.  OU should have fun flying into Denton, Texas, and playing in 100 degree heat.  Good luck.  Go Mean Green, 34-27.

Labor Day Picks

Well, a 1-1 day brings the old losing record to 3-6.  Come on down to the Clevelander Bar and Grill and get drunk as you watch your money go down the drain with today's picks.  Let's get drunk, Cleveland!!!

Favorites are in bold

Rutgers Scarlet Knights vs Cincinnati Bearcats in Piscataway, Rutgers Stadium
Spread: 4.5
Pick: Rutgers Scarlet Knights
I liked the Bearcats a lot last year. This year though, they may just have to replace too many weapons as they only have one returning starter on defense. Rutgers seems to be the cream of the crop of the weak Big East this year. Rutgers wins 28-22.
Florida State Seminoles vs Miami Hurricanes in Tallahassee, Doak Campbell Stadium
Spread: 6
Pick: Miami Hurricanes
This game is almost always a hard fought, low scoring, defensive struggle decided by a field goal (except when I bet it last year and lost). That being said, I think these teams are similar enough to battle to the end. This game will probably be low scoring (under 47 probably not bad either). In the end someone wins by less than 6 points. I am going to guess The U wins 16-13.

Sports Bar

Well, nothing like a 2-5 start to the year.  But as I warned everyone, betting against me is the only true lock.  Two games today on the slate and let's bet them both.  Here we go.

Favorites are in bold

Colorado Buffaloes vs Colorado State Rams in Boulder, Folsom Field
Spread: 10.5
Pick: Colorado Buffaloes
Colorado State is not good and Colorado needs to improve or Dan Hawkins is on the hot seat. Buffs destroyed the Rams last year and will do it again. CU big 42-17.

Mississippi Rebels vs Memphis Tigers in Memphis, Liberty Bowl
Spread:  17.5
Pick:  Mississippi Rebels
People are worried about Ole Miss being favorites this year and what to expect.  I may not know what will happen in the SEC, but I am sure a SEC butt kicking will be in order today.  Memphis may not cross midfield until the 2nd half against UM's 3rd string defense.  Ole Miss in a romp 35-3.

Heaven is a College Football Saturday!

While Saturday may not end with a taunt and then a great cheap shot punch, there is sure to be plenty of drama to go around.  Plus so many games to gamble on!!!  I love it.  Went a disapoointing 1-1 on day 1 of the season, but hopefully can turn it into a winning weekend today.  Here we go!!!

Favorites are in bold

Penn State Nittany Lions vs Akron Zips in University Park, Beaver Stadium
Spread: 29
Pick: Penn State Nittany Lions
Unlike the Buckeyes, JoePa has no problem running up the score versus the scrubs. They are gonna need it to since their schedule is so cream puff. WE ARE...63-10.
Michigan Wolverines vs Western Michigan Broncos in Ann Arbor, Michigan Stadium
Spread: 13
Pick: Michigan Wolverines
Forget all the talk about 3 QB's and over practicing. This will only make this Wolverine team angry. Less than two TD favorite at home versus a directional Michigan school. Not this year. UM 38-17.
Texas Longhorns vs Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks in Austin, Darrell K. Royal - Texas Memorial Stadium
Spread: 42
Pick: Texas Longhorns
Texas eats teams like this for a mid-morning snack. This will be a disaster for the Warhawks. UT 63-7.
Notre Dame Fightin' Irish vs Nevada Wolfpack in South Bend, Notre Dame Stadium
Spread:  15
Pick:  Nevada Wolfpack
Notre Dame is a fraud and are going to prove it today.  Nevada QB Colin Kaepernick is going to give the Irish defense everything they can handle.  Nevada is a little young and can give up some yards in the air.  I am banking on an experienced D-Line to get enough pressure to cause some problems.  ND wins in a shootout, but not without a scare 45-37.

And lastly for all the degenerates like me.

UConn Huskies vs Ohio Bobcats in Athens, Peden Stadium
Spread:  4
Pick:  Ohio Bobcats
I just have a feeling about this game.  UConn lost its QB and major offensive threat in RB Donald Brown and only return 6 players on each side of the ball.  OU lost a lot of hearbreakers last year and have a decent team returning.  Plus I love home dogs.  It is a night game and should have plenty of rowdy drunks to create enough of a distraction.  OU wins 28-26.

Gamble. Gamble. Gamble.

Today is the greatest day of the year.  The start of football season.  And the time of the year where I start losing money betting on football.  So while the Indians fade away and the Browns try to decide which quarterback is going to lead them to their 6 win season, my addiction resurfaces and I get the shakes of a junkie about to fix.  So without further ado, here are my first picks of the year.  Gamble away my friends.

Favorites are in bold

North Carolina State Wolfpack vs South Carolina Gamecocks in Raleigh, Carter Finley Stadium
Spread: 5
Pick: South Carolina Gamecocks
The Gamecocks may not win this one, but it should be a defensive struggle. 'Cocks QB Stephen Garcia leads an inexperienced team, but the D should keep them in the game. NC State 13-10.
Boise State Broncos vs Oregon Ducks in Boise, Bronco Stadium
O/U: 64
Pick: Over
Despite the game being on the blue turf, I think Oregon will win this game and not need the 3 points.  However, stranger things have happened in Boise, so I think a better bet is the over 64.  This is a big game to see if the Ducks are for real despite all the changes to their coaching staff and personnel.  Oregon wins 42-31 and covers the over.

Go Browns!

As Super Bowl frenzy begins to sweep Cleveland after two preseason wins, gambling fever has gripped me.  I have done just about all I can to prevent myself from betting on preseason football or baseball or maybe even women's tennis.  In just two days, the picks that you can bet against will return.  I already have two picks guaranteed to win for thursday's action.  Win, that is, if you pick against me.  So scrape together the remaining cash that you have left after betting Browns futures and prepare to win some money betting against the prognosticator.  Happy gambling my drunken friends!!!
