Cavs lose?  Browns win?  Apocalypse now?  Mike Holmgren?  Lots of strange happenings in Cleveland yesterday.  So on that note I am going to gamble on every degenerate team in America.  So let's get drinking and gambling to get into the holiday spirit.

Favorites are in bold

Kentucky Wildcats vs Drexel Dragons in Lexington, Rupp Arena
Spread: 18.5
Pick: Drexel Dragons
I still don't buy that Kentucky is as good as advertised. Plus they haven't covered almost at all this year. UK will win versus overmatched Dragons, but take the points. UK wins 86-70.
Dayton Flyers vs Appalachian State Mountaineers in Dayton, University Of Dayton Arena
Spread: 14
Pick: Appalachian State Mountaineers
Dayton struggles to score points. Appy State has hung in there versus good teams this year. The Flyers always win at home, but will not cover today. Dayton wins 60-52.
Montana Bears vs Fresno State Bulldogs in Missoula, Dahlberg Arena
Spread: 5.5
Pick: Montana Bears
Nobody beats Montana at home.  And the Bears love to cover at home as well.  Sorry Fresno, Tark the Shark is long gone and you just don't have a prayer today.  Montana wins, 83-69.
Boise State Broncos vs Portland State Broncos in Boise, Taco Bell Arena
Spread: 7
Pick: Boise State Broncos
Boise is another wonderful place to visit this time of year, except if you have to actually go there.  PSU is very bad and is even worse on the road.  Good luck Vikings, but Boise wins today.  BSU wins 85-63.
Northern Colorado Bears vs San Jose State Spartans in Greeley, Butler-Hancock Hall
Spread: 5
Pick: Northern Colorado Bears
Northern Colorado is going to win the Big Sky and is going to give someone a tough first round game in the NCAA tourney.  Until then, we will keep betting them.  Good luck getting to Greeley, Spartans.  UNCO wins today 75-68.
Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns vs Tulane Green Wave in Lafayette, Cajun Dome
Spread: 3.5
Pick: Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns
ULL is not very good this year.  But Tulane is not much better.  Its in Lafayette, so I am taking the Cajuns for the heck of it.  I may be drunk, but at least I am having fun.  Ragin' Cajuns win 68-64.
St. John's Red Storm vs Cornell Big Red in New York, Madison Square Garden
Spread: 3.5
Pick: St. John's Red Storm
In the battle of the Red's, I think the Big Red is in trouble versus the Red Storm.  Cornell has a very good team that will most likely make the tournament.  St. John's is finally playing well again and always seem to play well at their home away from home, the Garden.  Lay the short line, St. John's wins 75-68.

Cavs Bar

Cavs pulled another one out last night in a defensive struggle/poor offensive game.  LeBron finished with 26, 10 and 8 as the Cavs tried to give away a victory in the 4th quarter.  No Cavs today, but plenty of college hoops and NCAA football scrimmages to bet on.  So come on down to the Clevelander and Let's Get Drunk.

I have some basketball picks today and like any good addict, I have some football picks today.  It's like crack, and not good crack either.  On to the picks!!!

Favorites are in bold

Rutgers Scarlet Knights vs UCF Knights in Saint Petersburg, Tropicana Field
Spread: 2.5
Pick: UCF Knights
The Battle of the Knights. Bowl games are about who it matters most to. Today's game, a virtual home game for UCF, also matters more to UCF. They will be ready to play today and will actually win this game today. Take the points, UCF wins 34-29.
Fresno State Bulldogs vs Wyoming Cowboys in Albuquerque, University Stadium
Spread: 10.5
Pick: Wyoming Cowboys
This game may have 500 points scored.  I think Fresno will score, but they can't stop anybody either.  In the end, Fresno pulls it out late, but no by more than 10.  Take the points, Fresno wins 58-49.
And my basketball picks in BOLD.
Michigan Wolverines +19.5 vs Kansas Jayhawks
Mississippi State Bulldogs -3 vs Houston Cougars
West Virginia Mountaineers -15 vs CSU Vikings
Western kentucky Hilltoppers +9.5 vs Louisville Cardinals
Florida Gators -7 vs Richmond Spiders

Party Room Available

Don't forget to schedule all of your parties at Downtown Cleveland's best party destination, the Clevelander Bar and Grill.  Our beautiful upstairs party room is available for corporate, birthday, or bachelor party needs.  Contact Pat or Ed for details.

Well, a bit of a rough day yesterday.  5-8 to bring my record to 43-45-2 on the year for NCAA Hoops.  Lost a couple by a few points or otherwise would have been a decent day.  Today I have some NFL picks and some college picks.  Come on down and enjoy all the action with us at the Clevelander.  Let's Get Drunk!!!

Favorites are in bold

Minnesota Vikings vs Cincinnati Bengals in Minneapolis, Metrodome
Spread: 7
Pick: Cincinnati Bengals
I love the Bengals this year. Still getting no respect. Anyone that has a player who bribes an official with a dollar AND wears a sombrero on the sideline is great in my book. Bengals win today, 20-19.
Indianapolis Colts vs Denver Broncos in Indianapolis, Lucas Oil Stadium
Spread: 7
Pick: Denver Broncos
Can the Colts beat anyone by a touchdown? They stay undefeated, but comeback late. Colts win 28-26.

Favorites are in bold

Villanova Wildcats vs Temple Owls in Philadelphia, Liacouras Center
Spread: 3.5
Pick: Villanova Wildcats
No fun rules. They are going to win the Big 5 title today by working a good Temple team. Go Nova, 68-60.
Xavier Musketeers vs Cincinnati Bearcats in Cincinnati, Cintas Center
Spread: 3.5
Pick: Cincinnati Bearcats
A big rivalry game but I think the Bearcats are a quality team. Take the points as the game will be close but I think Cincinnati pulls it out, 72-70.
South Florida Bulls vs Central Michigan Chippewas in Tampa, USF Sun Dome
Spread: 12.5
Pick: South Florida Bulls
USF has been working teams at home by double digits all year.  Today will be no exception as directional Michigan schools are not very good.  USF wins 75-55.
Illinois State Redbirds vs Niagra Purple Eagles in Normal, Redbird Arena
Spread: 6
Pick: Illinois State Redbirds
Illinois State is on a roll again this year.  I love betting MVC schools at home.  Lay the points, Redbirds win 85-76.

Cavs Bar

The Cavs beat the injury riddled Trail Blazers last night.  LeBron scored 33 and led the Cavs to victory.  The Trail Blazers are so injured that their coach even ruptured his achilles.  Anyway, a win is a win and we will take it.

On another victory note, we all know that the Browns essentially knocked the Steelers out of playoff contention on Thursday night.  Not sure how many Clevelanders stayed awake to watch the game, but again we will take the win (although that win probably took us out of the Ndamukong Suh derby who will surely be the #1 pick in next years draft).  I do like the direction the Browns are headed though.  To show up on that miserable night (ahem, fans) and not quit is great.  Now I am not saying the Browns are good, but I like more of what I see.  Anyone who has been watching has seen the development of a pretty potent pass rush.  Now if they could only stop the run we would be in business.  I also like the use of Josh Cribbs, because like Coach Tressel at Ohio State doesn't get, if you have a weapon like that, you have to find a way to get him the ball.  I didn't like Mangini when he was hired and was even more skeptical after a few games, but I must say he is getting these guys to play.  We still don't have the bodies to compete, but the fact that they are still playing hard and improving makes me think he has lit a fire.  The Browns have several winable games coming up, so let's see if they can head this thing in the right direction to give us some hope for next year.

38-37-2 on the young college basketball season and I have a million games I like today.  On to the picks...

Favorites are in bold

Butler Bulldogs vs Ohio State Buckeyes in Indianapolis, Hinkle Fieldhouse
Spread: 4
Pick: Ohio State Buckeyes
Player of the Year Candidate Evan Turner is hurt, but I think the Buckeyes have enough experience to gut this one out today against Thad Matta's old stomping grounds. Buckeyes win 65-58.
Minnesota Golden Gophers vs St. Josephs Hawks in Minneapolis, Williams Arena
Spread: 16.5
Pick: St. Josephs Hawks
What? 16.5 points? Villanova wasn't even favored by that many versus the Hawks and Minnesota is no Nova. Gophers will win this game at home, but not by 17. Take the points, Minnesota wins 60-50.
Purdue Boilermakers vs Alabama Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa, Coleman Coliseum
Spread: 4.5
Pick: Purdue Boilermakers
Alabama stinks and Purdue has been stellar so far this year. My only worry is this is Purdue's first true road game. No matter though, they are experienced enough to win on the road. Boiler Up 85-74.
UNLV Rebels vs Kansas State Wildcats in Las Vegas, Orleans Arena - The Orleans Hotel
Spread: 2
Pick: UNLV Rebels
UNLV is too good and it is hard for any team not to get distracted when playing in Vegas, especially at a Vegas hotel no less. Rebels win 62-57.
My other picks because I am too lazy to write it all out...(my picks in BOLD)
George Washington Colonials -4.5 at Towson Tigers
Utah Utes -1 vs Oklahoma Sooners
Texas A&M Aggies +1 vs New Mexico Lobos in Houston
VCU Rams -2.5 vs Richmond Spiders
Missouri State Bears -4.5 at Arkansas State Red Wolves
Boise State Broncos -4.5 vs San Diego Toreros
Northern Iowa Panthers -3.5 vs Siena Saints
Denver Pioneers +9.5 at Portland Pilots
George Mason Patriots -2 vs Creighton Blue Jays

Team Mistaken For Browns Defeat Steelers 13 - 6

In an embarrassing scheduling mixup a team that has the same uniforms as the Cleveland Browns defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 13 - 6 in Cleveland Browns Stadium Thursday night. The NFL had billed the game as Browns vs Steelers but it was actually a local high school team, the Midpark Meteors that defeated the reigning  World Champions.

Fans seemed perplexed at the scheduling mishap, "Obviously that wasn't the Browns playing tonight, no turnovers, minimal penalties, control of the clock. I'm just confused about how the NFL could have let the wrong team on the field." said super fan John 'Big Dawg' Thompson. Pat McGinty of Lakewood added "Sure it's great to see the Steelers lose, I just wish we had a team that played like that and could give Sucksburg that loss. But give those kids from Midpark credit, they played really well."

When asked for an explanation about why the Browns were not playing an official from the NFL office was vague "We're in the business of putting a great product on the field. If there was confusion about who was playing that's regrettable, but there was a competitive game tonight which is what's important."

The Browns are scheduled to play Kansas City on December 20th. It is not clear what team will show up for that game but in a related note the St. James Warriors junior high football team of Lakewood (a suburb of Cleveland) has a flight booked  for Kansas City on December 19th.

BCS Championship Bar

I am unhappy.  I am a person who actually like to watch college football bowl games.  Now mind you, I am not a fan of the BCS, but I do love bowl games.  I know they are meaningless scrimmages, but it still provides some entertainment for the holiday season and plenty of great gambling opportunities.  We get to see matchups that we don't see all the time and it gives us a true(r) measuring stick as to which schools are actually as good as their ranking.  But the BCS is the worst.  Are you serious that they scheduled TCU versus Boise State?  What are they scared that TCU or Boise will beat Florida, Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, or Iowa?  It infuriates me that in order to keep the status quo they will not give these schools a legitimate chance to compete against the big money programs.  Of course, this also prevents any chance to obtain reasonable proof that a playoff is absolutely necessary.  God forbid, TCU would knock off Florida just like Utah last year versus Alabama in their own backyard, and create some controversy.  And the matchups are terrible.  Wouldn't a Boise State matchup with Cincinnati be a great game?  There might be 20 TDs scored in that game.  And TCU versus Florida?  Doesn't anyone want to see if TCU is really as good as all the experts claim?  Instead we get to watch Florida crush a defenseless Cincy team, and the two teams I want to see, play each other and prove nothing.  I am furious and I haven't even delved into the fact that before the season started, Cincinnati, Boise State, and TCU didn't even have a chance to compete for the national title due to the fact that rankings are made before a game has been played and somehow are allowed to figure into the BCS formula.  So with the exception of the Rose Bowl (my Ohio State fan bias and the fact that it is a traditional bowl matchup of Pac-10 versus Big 10 being the reason), I am boycotting all of the BCS games this season.  I will not gamble on them.  I will not watch them.  I urge you to not watch them.  Or, if you do want to watch them, come down to the bar with us, or any bar for that matter and make those television numbers go down.  The only way this system will ever change is when they stop making money.  If you don't watch, the ad revenue dries up and something has to change.  So join me and boycott the BCS in hopes that someday we can get a true national champion.

After an okay Sunday, my record remains hovering around .500.  Let's see if we can pick some winners today now that I am good and angry.

Favorites are in bold

Georgetown Hoyas vs Butler in New York, Madison Square Garden
Spread: 3
Pick: Butler
Georgetown is not that good and Butler can prove on a national stage that they are back and for real again. Take the points, but Butler wins 55-53
BYU Cougars vs Arizona State Sun Devils in Provo, Marriott Center
Spread: 6
Pick: BYU Cougars
BYU is good and they are tough at home. The young Sun Devils have struggled a bit on the road and will continue today in Provo. Byu wins 67-57.
Kansas State Wildcats vs Xavier Musketeers in Manhattan, Bramlage Coliseum
Spread: 5
Pick: Kansas State Wildcats
K State has been tough at home. This will be a test for a strong, but young Xavier team. Lay the points, K State wins 85-74.
Temple Owls vs Miami RedHawks in Miami, John D. Millett Hall
Spread: 3
Pick: Temple Owls
Temple has been playing pretty well so far this year.  A tight line on the road versus a bad Miami team should be OK.  Lay the points, Temple wins 64-51.
Texas Tech Red Raiders vs TCU Horned Frogs in Fort Worth, Daniel-Meyer Coliseum
Spread: 2
Pick: Texas Tech Red Raiders
I am a little worried that Texas Tech has been reading their press clippings and aren't going to show up today versusa game TCU team.  As long as they show up, it should be no problem.  TTU wins narrowly, 78-74.

Cleveland Cavaliers Bar

Cavs got another win last night.  Starting to heat up with a full bench.  Come on down to the Clevelander today, talk a little Cavs and watch the myriad of college football championship games and maybe a little college basketball.  Either way everyone should come down to the Clevelander and get drunk!

Favorites are in bold

Cincinnati Bearcats vs Pittsburgh Panthers in Pittsburgh, Heinz Field
Spread: 2
Pick: Cincinnati Bearcats
Cincinnati just too powerful on offense and will cover to win late. The Nati wins 45-42.
Florida Gators vs Alabama Crimson Tide in Atlanta, Georgia Dome
Spread: 5.5
Pick: Florida Gators
Gators just better than the Tide. Its just that simple. Gators win 28-13.
And in basketball...

Kansas State Wildcats vs Washington State Cougars in Manhattan, Bramlage Coliseum
Spread: 9
Pick: Washington State Cougars
Cougars may not win this game, but their style of play will keep them in the game. Take the points, K State wins 63-60.
Kentucky Wildcats vs North Carolina Tar Heels in Lexington, Rupp Arena
Spread: 3.5
Pick: North Carolina Tar Heels
Kentucky is the most overrated team in college basketball. They may have added Calapari, but the players are still the same as last year. Take the points, but the Tarheels will win 80-72.
Rhode Island Rams vs Providence Friars in Kingston, Ryan Center
Spread: 5.5
Pick: Providence Friars
Providence is not good. But Rhode Island is not 5.5 points better than them. The Friars may not win this game but they will keep it close. take the points, Rams win 72-69.
Detroit Titans vs Cleveland State VIkings in Detroit, Calihan Hall
Spread: 3.5
Pick: Detroit Titans
I know CSU finally covered, but that doesn't mean they will two games in a row.  Titans work our poor hometown Vikings, who are fighting at least.  D-troit wins 78-65.
Gonazga Bulldogs vs Wake Forest Demon Deacons in Spokane, McCarthey Athletic Center
Spread: 6.5
Pick: Gonzaga Bulldogs
Wake is young and on a road trip and have to go into hostile Spokane.  Zags have been a little inconsistent, but will cover today.  Bulldogs win 79-71.
UNLV Runnin' Rebels vs Santa Clara Broncos in Santa Clara, Leavey Center
Spread: 8
Pick: UNLV Runnin' Rebels
Santa Clara just plain stinks.  UNLV is good.  They will pound the Broncos today.  Rebels win 80-59.
San Diego State Aztecs vs UCSB Gauchos in Santa Barbara, Thunderdome
Spread: 4.5
Pick: San Diego State Aztecs
As usual, Steve Fisher has the young Aztecs rolling.  Despite losing most of their starters to graduation, the Aztecs have reloaded and are playing well.  Lay the points in this one and enjoy the Aztec victory.  SDSU wins 70-58.

Big Z

Congratulations to Big Z for becoming the all time leader in games played in a Cavs uniform.  He has been through the good times and the bad times and I love that he came out and said what he did about winning a championship for the city of Cleveland.  If anyone deserves a ring, it is the man in the middle.  Congrats Z from all of us at the Clevelander.  In case you missed it the Cavs worked the reeling Suns.  LeBron didn't even have to score in this game for the Cavs to win.  Nice.

Hey, Buckeye fans.  Come on down to the Clevelander tonight to check out one of my personal favorite games (probably because I get to use the word Beaver), the Civil War.  That's right.  The Buckeyes opponent in the Rose Bowl will be decided tonight in Eugene when the fierce rival Ducks battle the Beavers.  Come on down get drunk and do some scouting with us at the Clevelander.

My picks have been hovering right around .500 with a 4-5 day yesterday.  I've got some real winners today.  You degenerates like me will love today's picks.  Let's Get Drunk.

My picks are in BOLD.

Texas Tech Red Raiders +3 vs Washington Huskies

Idaho Vandals +1 at CS-Fullerton

Detroit Titans -5.5 vs Youngstown State Penguins

A Bad Sunday

A bad day Sunday.  I got worked.  The Browns got worked.  After an 0-5 day on Sunday I dip below .500 on the year, 22-23-2.  I always suck on Sunday.  Maybe its the hangover, maybe I just suck.  Anyway, today is a new day.  Enjoy and Let's Get Drunk Cleveland!

Favorites are in bold

North Carolina State Wolfpack vs Northwestern Wildcats in Raleigh, Rbc Center
Spread: 4.5
Pick: North Carolina State Wolfpack
Northwestern has been on fire as of late despite missing two starters for the year. NC State tends to play well at home in the non-conference and things are no different today. Wolfpack win 68-60.
Purdue Boilermakers vs Wake Forest Demon Deacons in West Lafayette, Mackey Arena
Spread: 10.5
Pick: Purdue Boilermakers
Wake just got drilled at home by William and Mary. Now, I know they are young, but they are in for trouble today in West Lafayette. Purdue rolls, 78-57.
Maryland Terrapins vs Indiana Hoosiers in Bloomington, Assembly Hall - IN
Spread: 4
Pick: Maryland Terrapins
Indiana still in rebuilding mode and Vazquez should have a field day. Maryland wins late, 68-62.
North Carolina Tar Heels vs Michigan State Spartans in Chapel Hill, Dean E Smith Center
Spread: 2.5
Pick: Michigan State Spartans
Michigan State has struggled in some games early as they always tend to do. Today is a big game and will mean more to the Spartans than the young Tarheels. UNC will be good, but not on this day. Sparty wins 85-80.
Northeastern Huskies vs Providence Friars in Boston, Matthews Arena
Spread: 2.5
Pick: Northeastern Huskies
Providence is not good away from the Dunkin Donuts center.  Northeastern will be fired up to beat a BCS school at home.  Lay the points, Huskies keep rolling 65-62.
