BCS Championship Bar
I am unhappy. I am a person who actually like to watch college football bowl games. Now mind you, I am not a fan of the BCS, but I do love bowl games. I know they are meaningless scrimmages, but it still provides some entertainment for the holiday season and plenty of great gambling opportunities. We get to see matchups that we don't see all the time and it gives us a true(r) measuring stick as to which schools are actually as good as their ranking. But the BCS is the worst. Are you serious that they scheduled TCU versus Boise State? What are they scared that TCU or Boise will beat Florida, Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, or Iowa? It infuriates me that in order to keep the status quo they will not give these schools a legitimate chance to compete against the big money programs. Of course, this also prevents any chance to obtain reasonable proof that a playoff is absolutely necessary. God forbid, TCU would knock off Florida just like Utah last year versus Alabama in their own backyard, and create some controversy. And the matchups are terrible. Wouldn't a Boise State matchup with Cincinnati be a great game? There might be 20 TDs scored in that game. And TCU versus Florida? Doesn't anyone want to see if TCU is really as good as all the experts claim? Instead we get to watch Florida crush a defenseless Cincy team, and the two teams I want to see, play each other and prove nothing. I am furious and I haven't even delved into the fact that before the season started, Cincinnati, Boise State, and TCU didn't even have a chance to compete for the national title due to the fact that rankings are made before a game has been played and somehow are allowed to figure into the BCS formula. So with the exception of the Rose Bowl (my Ohio State fan bias and the fact that it is a traditional bowl matchup of Pac-10 versus Big 10 being the reason), I am boycotting all of the BCS games this season. I will not gamble on them. I will not watch them. I urge you to not watch them. Or, if you do want to watch them, come down to the bar with us, or any bar for that matter and make those television numbers go down. The only way this system will ever change is when they stop making money. If you don't watch, the ad revenue dries up and something has to change. So join me and boycott the BCS in hopes that someday we can get a true national champion.
After an okay Sunday, my record remains hovering around .500. Let's see if we can pick some winners today now that I am good and angry.
