Cavs Bar
The Cavs beat the injury riddled Trail Blazers last night. LeBron scored 33 and led the Cavs to victory. The Trail Blazers are so injured that their coach even ruptured his achilles. Anyway, a win is a win and we will take it.
On another victory note, we all know that the Browns essentially knocked the Steelers out of playoff contention on Thursday night. Not sure how many Clevelanders stayed awake to watch the game, but again we will take the win (although that win probably took us out of the Ndamukong Suh derby who will surely be the #1 pick in next years draft). I do like the direction the Browns are headed though. To show up on that miserable night (ahem, fans) and not quit is great. Now I am not saying the Browns are good, but I like more of what I see. Anyone who has been watching has seen the development of a pretty potent pass rush. Now if they could only stop the run we would be in business. I also like the use of Josh Cribbs, because like Coach Tressel at Ohio State doesn't get, if you have a weapon like that, you have to find a way to get him the ball. I didn't like Mangini when he was hired and was even more skeptical after a few games, but I must say he is getting these guys to play. We still don't have the bodies to compete, but the fact that they are still playing hard and improving makes me think he has lit a fire. The Browns have several winable games coming up, so let's see if they can head this thing in the right direction to give us some hope for next year.
38-37-2 on the young college basketball season and I have a million games I like today. On to the picks...
Favorites are in bold
Butler Bulldogs vs Ohio State Buckeyes in Indianapolis, Hinkle Fieldhouse
Spread: 4
Pick: Ohio State Buckeyes
Player of the Year Candidate Evan Turner is hurt, but I think the Buckeyes have enough experience to gut this one out today against Thad Matta's old stomping grounds. Buckeyes win 65-58.
Minnesota Golden Gophers vs St. Josephs Hawks in Minneapolis, Williams Arena
Spread: 16.5
Pick: St. Josephs Hawks
What? 16.5 points? Villanova wasn't even favored by that many versus the Hawks and Minnesota is no Nova. Gophers will win this game at home, but not by 17. Take the points, Minnesota wins 60-50.
Purdue Boilermakers vs Alabama Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa, Coleman Coliseum
Spread: 4.5
Pick: Purdue Boilermakers
Alabama stinks and Purdue has been stellar so far this year. My only worry is this is Purdue's first true road game. No matter though, they are experienced enough to win on the road. Boiler Up 85-74.
UNLV Rebels vs Kansas State Wildcats in Las Vegas, Orleans Arena - The Orleans Hotel
Spread: 2
Pick: UNLV Rebels
UNLV is too good and it is hard for any team not to get distracted when playing in Vegas, especially at a Vegas hotel no less. Rebels win 62-57.
My other picks because I am too lazy to write it all out...(my picks in BOLD)
George Washington Colonials -4.5 at Towson Tigers
Utah Utes -1 vs Oklahoma Sooners
Texas A&M Aggies +1 vs New Mexico Lobos in Houston
VCU Rams -2.5 vs Richmond Spiders
Missouri State Bears -4.5 at Arkansas State Red Wolves
Boise State Broncos -4.5 vs San Diego Toreros
Northern Iowa Panthers -3.5 vs Siena Saints
Denver Pioneers +9.5 at Portland Pilots
George Mason Patriots -2 vs Creighton Blue Jays
